![]() ![]() Industry-Leading 25-Year Warranty and Superior Durability over Other Decking Materials Every time you step out onto your Trex deck you should feel a sense of pride, knowing that you have you done your part to cut back on harmful and unnecessary wood and plastic waste. The World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation believe that if we don’t do something about the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans, there will probably be more plastic in the oceans than fish by the year 2050. Plastic that makes its way into lakes, streams and oceans harms and kills the animals that live there. Unfortunately, the toxic chemicals which leak out of plastic are found in the blood and tissue of nearly every human being. ![]() When it makes its way into our ground and waterways it does immeasurable damage. Each year Trex is responsible for keeping 500 million pounds of wood and plastic from making its way to local dumps and landfills. This ecologically-conscious decision means that your beautiful Trex deck is 95% recycled sawdust, wood chips and fibers, wood pallets and a number of plastic items. This composite decking material is made of a combination of plastic and wood, and the Trex company is committed to using recycled plastic and wood materials so they don’t have a negative impact on the environment. If you build a Trex deck that is 500 square feet you save over 140,000 plastic bags from making their way to a landfill. You will never need to stain or paint your Trex deck, and cleanup is as easy as slapping on a little soapy water. You should also take into consideration the manual labor involved in pressure-washing, sanding, staining and painting a wood deck year after year. That’s a big investment you need to make over and over to keep that wooden deck looking good.Ĭonsidering that you should stain your deck every 2 to 3 years, you are looking at a sizable cost over the life of a traditional wood deck. The HomeAdvisor website tells us that it costs between $540 and $1050 to stain the average wooden dec. Go the traditional wooden deck route and you are going to spend more money every year on maintenance than with a Trex composite deck. Trex Decking Pros Less Time, Money and Effort on Maintenance Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Trex decking to help you decide whether it’s the right option for you and your deck. If you are considering having your deck builder use this environmentally-friendly and long-lasting decking material, there are a few things you should know first. People that want a functional and beautiful deck that requires very little maintenance and upkeep often build a Trex deck. Wood alternatives like PVC and composite decking materials mean you have more choices now, and Trex decking is one of the most popular choices when it comes to composites. There are more good-looking decking material choices these days compared to the past. This means that first and foremost your deck should look beautiful. Of course, when it comes right down to it, looks are important. You no doubt want something you won’t have to replace in a few years either. You didn’t work hard all week long to spend your free time on the weekends staining, painting and repairing your deck. The perfect outdoor deck should be high-performance and low-maintenance. Rack 2 will feature the same types of sex toys and gadgets you encountered in Rack 1, including sciencey favorites like the portal devices, size modification tools, orgasm denial rings/paints, estim equipment, and fucking machines. A happier change is that you can pick up rings you've dropped this time around, but you still won't be able to use any in boss battles Sonic can only take one hit in his Act 3 encounters, and that makes them incredibly tense. There aren't any Special Stages, for one, which is disappointing as they're often a highlight. ![]() It's entirely possible to reach the end of the sixth zone without seeing a single gem, and the resulting disappointment of watching the aptly-named "bad ending" and having to start all over to get to Eggman is the kind of traumatizing experience that taught children of the '90s to always read the manual first.Īlong with the Chaos Emerald requirement, there are a few other gameplay changes from Sonic's first Game Gear appearance. Most of them are quite tricky to find, which would be a nice bit of added challenge, except for the fact that Sonic needs to grab every last one before he's even allowed to attempt the final zone. Many require quite a bit of trial and error - can Sonic make that jump, or will there be spikes? Will this tube bring rings or death? - and that feels at odds with the secret-filled stages of this game, which otherwise encourage exploration.Įven if you're not after any secret ring stashes, you'll still need to do some treasure hunting, since the Chaos Emeralds are hidden within the levels. Sonic games are at their best when the levels play to his abilities, but here it seems like they're working against him as often as not. Unfortunately, this game is also an early example of death-trap-heavy Sonic design - blind jumps that lead right into lava pits, a hang glider positioned playfully above an unseen, spike-filled ravine, springs that launch you directly into enemy fire - and it feels cheap, rather than challenging. There are also quite a few inspired set pieces that keep things fresh: Sonic will ride mine carts, fly hang gliders, navigate pipe mazes, float inside air bubbles, and skip across the water on his journey to Eggman, and each addition makes the trip that much more fun. There are tons of secrets - more so than in most Sonic games - with hidden rooms full of rings and power-ups, unmarked shortcuts, and invisible paths to discover. It's the standard Sonic formula, and it's undeniably fun, but the difference between good and great in Sonic's world is largely down to level design, and that's where this one stumbles.įirst, the good news, because there's a lot to love about these levels. You'll do that by running and jumping through seven stages of two acts apiece, picking up rings, taking out baddies, looking for Chaos Emeralds, and besting bosses at the end of every world. That's because Tails - despite his prominent placement right behind Sonic in every pre-level illustration - has been kidnapped by Eggman, and it's up to you to save him. The first change players familiar with the console version of Sonic 2 will notice is that there's no spunky sidekick to run alongside you this time. While it doesn't quite live up to either its big-screen sibling or its excellent portable predecessor, it's still a worthwhile link in the Sonic series, and a fun - if sometimes frustrating - game. Rather than leaving its Master System and Game Gear-owning fans with a simple, downsized port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, SEGA crafted a wholly unique title for the 8-bit systems, with a new plot, original level set, and quite a few gameplay differences. Is that the current thinking?” But we’re definitely always looking at ways of expanding. ”There has been endless debates about it, and it attracts a lot of toxicity, a lot of stuff we’re not interested in attracting to the game itself, any more on top of what’s already present. And so, ideally we’d put the power in the players’ hands, and give them the option to enable and disable different things. Whatever stance we take officially, some group of people are going to be upset with us. Simultaneously, some creatures that seem more evidently alive, such as the Amazon molly - an all-female species of freshwater fish that can reproduce only through parasitic mating with males of other species - survive just fine without meeting supposedly important hallmarks. Nevertheless, viruses do exhibit some of the hallmarks of life, including - as those of us anxiously mapping the spread of coronavirus variants know all too well - a capacity for evolution. Throughout the pandemic, many scientists and publications, including The Washington Post, have affirmed what Zimmer characterizes as the common wisdom: that SARS-CoV-2 “does not deserve entry into the exclusive club called Life.” Any given virus “is just a reorganized packet of its host’s own atoms,” since it lacks a metabolism of its own and is incapable of direct reproduction. Nowhere is this ambiguity more noticeable than in the case of viruses like the one that has confined so many of us to our homes. Decades later, John Butler Burke became temporarily famous, Zimmer tells us, after the physicist claimed he had used “radium to create life from lifeless matter” in sterile broth, a small army of mutating shapes that he dubbed “radiobes.” It was a thrilling discovery at first, but when another researcher attempted to reproduce Burke’s results he found “that the ‘cells,’ or radiobes, are nothing but little bubbles of water produced in the gelatin by the action of the salts upon it.” It was instead, Zimmer writes, “a jellylike byproduct of chemical reactions that took place in the jars” in which the ocean-floor samples were stored. Only later did he learn from the investigations of other scientists that Bathybius was not organic. The ending of the room brought a nice sense of closure to our mission and fitted the theme well. Saying that, there was a little bit of tech thrown in as well to break up from the twiddling of dials. However, Alcatraz did have quite a few padlocks to unlock in the room, and while it didn’t bother me, I know a number of people wouldn’t like this. I don’t know if inmates would be allowed to have padlocks to lock their items in their cells, but I’d imagine not. Against the realistic-looking water that seems to flow, its static nature stands out. It looks like a static transparent layer that is always there, but begins to appear when water encounters another object. When a ship passes through it or the water crashes up on the shore, though, the trick that the developers used to simulate a wake or disturbance in the water stands out in a not-so-great way. It glistens, gives off accurate rippling reflections, and is simply a treat to watch. Zoomed out, when looking at large undisturbed bodies, the water is beautiful. “There is one noticeable graphical miss regarding the water. The options to offer monetary gifts or flattery aren’t guaranteed to elicit a positive response, however, which adds to the feeling that the AI isn’t just a reactive force for you to manipulate. Trade can make or break your efforts, so diplomacy is key. On the flipside, you can expect different types of reactions to your own movements as well. Some aggressively expand with no concern for who their journey impacts, while others reach out to you when seeking out new land to break ground on. Beyond trade, your AI competitors react realistically and have a variety of personalities. Anno 1800 ultimately tests your vision for your budding city, and the act of breaking ground on multiple new projects while keeping your income in the green is a very different test of skill from something like getting a killstreak in a first-person shooter, but one that’s equally rewarding.
